The remilitarisation of the Rhineland (German: Rheinlandbesetzung) began on 7 Marchwhen German military forces entered the Rhineland, in direct contravention of the Treaty of Versailles and of the Locarno Treaties. After the end of World War I, the Rhineland came under Allied the Treaty of Versailles, the German military was forbidden from all territory west of.

German Plans for the Reoccupation of the Rhine-land: A Note Donald Cameron Watt One of the most widely repeated and most influential myths in the historiography of the inter-war period is that connected with the entry of German troops on 7 March I into the demilitarized zone of the Rhineland.

This myth avers that the German troops. Nazi leader Adolf Hitler violates the Treaty of Versailles and the Locarno Pact by sending German military forces into the Rhineland, a demilitarized zone along the Rhine River in western Germany. The Rhineland is a region in western Germany that borders Belgium, France, and a section of the Netherlands.

The Treaty of Versailles and the Locarno Pact clearly stipulated that it was to be made into a demilitarized zone. Although Germany kept political control of the area, the nation was not permitted to have any type of military forces in the Rhineland. Key Facts & Summary. Hitler was the man behind the remilitarisation of Rhineland.

He expanded the size of the German army and greatly armed them.; Germany wanted to revenge their defeat by the Allied powers in the First World War.; Hitler seeks, by all means, a pretext to remilitarize the Rhineland.

The Rhineland was designated a demilitarised zone by the Treaty of Versailles. Reoccupation of the area was a breach of the Treaty and of further Treaties such as the Locarno Pact. For Hitler and the Nazi’s the reoccupation was a propaganda opportunity; it also tested the resolve of the major powers.

The response was muted. Teachers' notes; On 7 March German troops marched into the Rhineland. This action was directly against the Treaty of Versailles which had laid out the terms which the defeated Germany had accepted.

This move, in terms of foreign relations, threw the European allies, especially France and Britain, into confusion. What should they do about it. The demilitarized zone was inevitably among the first targets for any revived Germany in a position to challenge the post-war settlement.

No German Government had ever accepted that the zone should remain in existence indefinitely. Its crucial importance for Germany and for any future plans of expansion also pointed to an eventual reoccupation. The German Peasants' War, Great Peasants' War or Great Peasants' Revolt (German: Deutscher Bauernkrieg) was a widespread popular revolt in some German-speaking areas in Central Europe from to It failed because of intense opposition from the aristocracy, who slaughtered up toof thepoorly armed peasants and farmers.

The survivors were fined and achieved few, if any. The remilitarization of the Rhineland on 7 March 36 did violate Versailles. But Versailles was a dead letter, of no more force than Prohibition had been in the US. Don't believe me. Consider this: the Versailles Treaty under Article prohibited Germany from possessing submarines.

The Treaty had been negotiated by Great Britain and France. The Re-Occupation of Rhineland This source is suggesting that Hitler was only sending troops to his land which already belongs to had right to do this as if you have a garden you are allowed to go can agree with this source because the Rhineland was part of Germany but it had been demilitarised under the Treaty off Versailles.

in both Britain and France were still licking their wounds from the Great War: Neither had wanted a war with Germany. Hitler had specifically ordered his men that if the French gave any resistance to the occupation that Germany would pull out.
